About Our School

Great Coates Village Nursery is a small school on the outskirts of Grimsby, currently operating as a 65 full time equivalent (fte) place Nursery. It was opened as a Nursery in 1972 and it is an integral part of the village community. Our school logo represents an important stage in a child’s life.  It shows the child going forward into the wider world of the nursery school with parents and/or carers and the teacher each taking a hand to support, help and encourage each other and to provide security when individual children need it.

All members of staff at the Nursery are passionate about providing a happy, caring, safe, secure, and stimulating environment, in which the needs of individual children and their families are met.  Our priority is to ensure children’s first experiences of care and learning, away from their home, are positive, fun and suitably challenging.  We believe that positive relationships between staff, parents and carers are fundamental to children’s future learning and development.  Therefore, we have developed an excellent supportive partnership between home and the Nursery, where both parents, carers and practitioners are working together to encourage the children to develop confidence, positive attitudes, an enthusiasm for learning and respect for their environment and local community. Parents demonstrate keen support for our activities and are enthusiastic in their involvement with what we do. We believe this positive partnership enables the children to reach their full potential and become confident and independent learners who are excited and enthusiastic about coming to Nursery and are well prepared for the next stage of their education. We want our children to be proud of their achievements, positive about their learning experiences, respectful of each other and to understand the similarities and differences with families and cultures. We aim to develop our children’s understanding that there are children less fortunate than themselves and that we are not all the same. As a fully inclusive school, we are committed to providing the best possible start to children’s learning and development
